The Huawei AP362 is an eKitEngine series access point compatible with Wi-Fi 6. It supports IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/ax on the 2.4 GHz band and IEEE 802.11 a/n/ac/ax on the 5 GHz band. The maximum theoretical throughput is 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz, respectively. The device supports MU-MIMO (multi-user simultaneous transmission and reception), BSS coloring (transmission labeling to reduce interference), and TWT (Target Wake Time, a feature to reduce power consumption). The access point features an intelligent antenna with a multi-element design that can operate independently. These elements can modify the main beamform as needed to adapt to connected clients. The AP362 housing is designed for mounting on walls, ceilings, or T-slot rails. The device features one Gigabit Ethernet port (10/100/1000 Mbps), which also serves as a PoE power input compliant with the IEEE 802.3af standard. It can also be powered via a DC power supply (input voltage is 12 V).

The product offered can operate in several modes: Fat AP, Leader AP, Fit AP, or Cloud. In Fat AP mode, the device functions as a standalone device; you can configure it like a standard wireless router. Leader AP mode allows you to configure the AP362 as a master (leader) device to manage other compatible access points. Cloud mode allows the device to connect to a cloud-based controller, and Fit AP mode is used to connect to another physical WLAN AC controller. The eKitEngine series solutions enable you to create a wide-area, efficient wireless network with extensive coverage. The devices support data roaming, bandwidth control, and multiple authentication methods. They are ideal for a wide range of applications, from homes to large businesses and restaurants.

Wi-Fi 6 AX3000 Network

The AP362 features Wi-Fi 6 capability, compatible with IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/ax on the 2.4 GHz band and IEEE 802.11 a/n/ac/ax on the 5 GHz band. The maximum theoretical throughput is 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz, respectively. This speed is sufficient for most internet applications, such as streaming 4K videos, playing games, or downloading large files.

The access point also uses several additional features to improve network quality. MU-MIMO allows multiple clients to transmit and receive simultaneously, eliminating data queues. Beamforming is used to shape the beam and improve connectivity with devices at the edge of the coverage area, and TWT saves power by waking connected devices only when a transmission is established.

Gigabit Ethernet port, PoE/DC power socket

The product on offer is equipped with one Gigabit Ethernet port (10/100/1000 Mbps), which also serves as a PoE power input via the IEEE 802.3af standard. It can also be powered via a standard DC outlet, in which case the input voltage is 12 V. The maximum power consumption is 11.2 W.

Smart type antennas

The access point features smart antennas, a multi-element design that can operate independently. These elements can modify the main beamform as needed to provide optimal coverage for connected clients. The device adapts to radio conditions and delivers significantly better coverage than access points equipped with standard omnidirectional antennas. The power gain on both bands is 4 dBi.

Up to 256 clients

The Huawei AP362 supports up to 256 client devices connected simultaneously. The eKitEngine series access points are ideal for locations with, or where multiple users may be present. The system supports load balancing and intelligent roaming; if one access point becomes overloaded, users are automatically switched to other access points.

The DFA algorithm is used to automatically detect wireless channel usage and recognize overlapping transmissions. When multiple access points are used, they operate in such a way that they do not interfere with each other. Furthermore, EDCA and broadcast scheduling technologies allow channel usage to be scheduled for a specific client device, ensuring that each device has equal access to the network.

A key advantage of the AP-based eKitEngine system is the optimization of network utilization by client devices. Clients with poor coverage or slow connection speeds are automatically disconnected to improve overall transmission quality. The AP362 also features a 5G priority function: client devices primarily connect to the 5 GHz band to ensure they receive the best possible bandwidth. This significantly reduces the load and interference on the 2.4 GHz band.

Advanced wireless system

The product offered is designed to operate within a large wireless system comprised of multiple access points. A network created in this way can cover even very large areas, depending on the number of devices used. The system supports data roaming; users automatically move from one access point to another without losing their connection.

Huawei solutions offer a wide range of features related to bandwidth control, transmission quality improvement, and security. For user authentication, you can use 802.1x, MAC address, or captive portal, among other methods. The advanced performance management and monitoring system will reduce the time you spend administering the network, for example, by automatically detecting and recognizing various types of errors.

Four operating modes

The access point can operate in four modes:

  • Fat AP: The access point works independently; setup and management are similar to standard wireless routers. It will work well in small networks where only one access point is used.
  • Leader AP: This allows you to configure the device as the "leader," enabling it to act as the network controller. In Leader AP mode, you can connect other access points to create a larger network. This mode is best suited for small networks, such as offices or restaurants. It reduces the costs associated with purchasing an additional controller.
  • Cloud AP:  In this mode, you can manage the access point from a cloud-based platform. This platform greatly simplifies monitoring performance and performing pre-configurations, and requires no additional management devices.
  • Fit AP:  This is the basic operating mode in which the access point connects to the controller.

Multiple applications

The Huawei AP362 is versatile and can be used in a variety of settings. Thanks to its high performance and features, it's ideal for homes and small businesses as a single access point. It can also be successfully used in large, advanced networks with numerous devices. It supports a wide range of modern features and can function as a basic access point in large, sophisticated networks.
